Port Work Safety Week 2-6.10.2023

The common port work safety day was first celebrated on the first Monday of October in 2017. Since then, the work safety day has been celebrated annually with varying themes, at a time when the dark and slippery season is just around the corner. In addition to visibility and taking careful steps, it has been emphasized to focus and observe, follow instructions, report incidents and dangerous situations, and adhere to the rules of the common workplace.

Last year, the theme day turned into a theme week, and it's the same this year. This year, the Port Work Safety Week will be celebrated 2-6.10.2023.

The theme for this year's work safety week is work ergonomics. Physical stress factors in port work include working postures, movements, mobility, and the use of physical strength. It is also important in office work to be able to regulate sitting, standing, movement, and work methods. Excessive physical stress is related to musculoskeletal symptoms, which are often the cause of sick leaves.

The theme of Work, Sit and Move Correctly - Remember Ergonomics in this year's safety week concerns all of us regardless of the nature of our work.

The main organiser of the theme week is The Finnish Port Operators Association in cooperation with The Finnish Port Association and The Transport Workers’ Union AKT and Trade Union PRO.
