Fuel Surcharge Starting from 1 May 2022

Due to the global political situation, the price of the fuel we use has rapidly more than doubled. To ensure the continuity of operations, we are forced to introduce a fuel surcharge starting from 1 May 2022. The fuel surcharge will not affect contractual prices, but it is invoiced separately.

The first fuel surcharge May 2022 will be calculated as the difference of the realized average in Q1–Q3 in 2021 and the realized index in March 2022.

Later, the monthly fuel surcharge will be calculated according to changes in the price index. If there are changes in the index, the surcharge will be adjusted correspondingly upwards or downwards.

If prices return to the average level in 2021, the use of the surcharge will end.

The percentage of fuel from total costs varies from one unit to the next, which is why we will use two different surcharges. Below mentioned surcharges are estimates only. The fuel surcharge will be calculated using Statistics Finland’s March price index for light fuel oil and it will be published on 2nd May.

  • Container operations 4-6 % starting from 1 May 2022
  • Ro-Ro and Break Bulk 3-4% starting from 1 May 2022

The fuel surcharge will not be allocated to the following invoice rows:

  • Arex
  • Forwarding
  • Freights
  • Storage and area rents
  • Fixed monthly rents
  • Dunnage
  • VGM weighing
  • Pass-through invoicing (e.g. port charges and container repairs)
